i don't know why you won't see fan ho's photo as a social documentary (you have your own reason and i'm no trying to argue with you) but to me it is a documentary about a society different that the western societies, an everyday moment that is part of a social culture less known to us in the west.
I can barely choose 5 favorite photographers. But here it goes in no particular order; Saul Leiter, William Klein, Daido Moriyama, Lazlo Mohagy-Nagy and Dennis Hopper. I spend a lot of time looking at photos (and taking them) and find inspiration everywhere. It would certainly be a challenge to choose 5 photos. Thanks 🙏
