My last post was in late December of last year. It’s now late March of 2024, and I’ve been taking a break from Substack as a whole and the overall photography side of things.
If you are wondering what QK means, it’s a Japanese term. Spelled out, you might see it as kyuukei, but where I work, we sort of adopted the quick and easy spelling of “QK”. It simply means “break” or “pause” to rest.
This year is somewhat of a transformative year for me. Some things in my life have really taken precedence for me and to be honest, photography and writing has fallen a bit by the wayside. I haven’t forgotten about it and I still love to do it, but a few other things have taken priority for the next little while. So you will definitely see fewer posts from me this year, and whether or not that translates to me losing some followers (or all of them), I’m prepared to accept that.
So what have I been doing in lieu of living and breathing photography? I’ve been focused on my health. Physical, mental and spiritual. I’ve been on a small journey of self improvement and development. Something for me. Unfortunately it means putting my camera down. Though I do pick it up once in a while to retain some of that muscle memory. I take a few shots, delete them and then put it away again.
But all is not lost. I do have some potential for a little photography later this year. I don’t have any expectations other than the fact that I will have an opportunity. Meaning, I don’t expect to come away with anything spectacular. Many times we talk about taking photos and we regret the fact that we didn’t just take the time to enjoy the moment. Camera’s are great tools, but so are your eyes, and your mind will be more than happy to accept what it sees with them rather than through a lens. So take a break. I think your brain will be all the more appreciative for it.
After it’s all said and done and the dust has settled, I’m not certain how it will affect this newsletter. It could change, it could stay the same. Whatever the outcome, I hope you will enjoy the ride along.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by.
This newsletter will always be free. Why? Because these days, not everyone can afford a paid subscription and who wants to be nickel and dime’d to death?
But if you do have the means, I can always use a cup of coffee to help me keep writing and creating.
Thank you!
